Which skin loving clay suits you?

Incorporating clays into your skincare making products can be quite challenging especially when all clays have almost the same or equal benefits to the skin.
Most clays are oil absorbent and contains mineral benefits that can help your skin in many different ways.
Here, we will run through some of the clays we carry so that the next time you shop with us, you will be able to make better informed choices.
Again, we stress that all clays work fantastic on almost any skin type. However, if you suffer from extreme dryness, it is best to go easy on clay products which tend to absorb the oil and moisture off your skin.
If in doubt, always do a patch test to make sure your skin is ok with it.
While clays have been consumed for centuries in health and detox potions, in this blog, we will only be talking about clays for skincare. However, this doesn’t mean our clays are any less pure.
So let’s start with…

BENTONITE CLAY
Bentonite, also referred to as Montmorillonite, is a very popular healing clay. This clay is created from volcano ash and is usually mined in USA which is where our clay comes from.
Bentonite clay comes in very fine grains which gives it a very smooth ‘slippery’ texture when mixed into masks and soaps. The color of the grain is a very light grey. This clay is odourless and non-staining making it a favourite amongst spas and cosmetic formulators.
FRENCH RED CLAY
If you have ever seen copper oxide, French Red Clay looks a lot like it because that’s just what it contains along with Hermatite iron,  kaolinite, illite, montmorillonitea and calcite.
French Red Clay is mined in its namesake France. This bright red clay is suitable for all types of skin but is especially popular amongst those with oily skin. Red clay’s powerful absorbent and cleansing properties is well known for many centuries.
FRENCH GREEN CLAY
French green clay is just as popular and beneficial. This clay is more of a greyish olive green color rather than a bright green tone.
Soap makers love this clay as it gives soaps that natural greenish grey look. It pairs well with many essential oils and is very soothing to the skin.
Our French green clay is quarried from France and is untreated. It is considered one of the most commonly used skin clays in the world. So if you are new to clays and not sure if your skin can take it, try this beauty in small batches.
In fact, an old couple walked into our outlet claiming this clay eases their swollen knees. They would mix the clay with water and a little jojoba oil, slather it on their knees and wrap their knees with a damp cloth. We’ve never tried this but they still return for more till this very day.
RHASSOUL CLAY
Mined in Morocco, Rhassoul Clay is a very high-quality clay with plenty of healing properties. This clay is off-white and very fine in texture. It is believed to improve skin elasticity and is a perfect clay for exfoliation.
This off-white clay is specially popular for its benefits to hair care, this clay can be easily made into a 30 second hair mask as a deep cleansing hair scrub.
Rhassoul clay is considered the more expensive clay compared to other clays due to its high mineral content.
FRENCH PINK CLAY
French Pink Clay is considered a very mild clay. This clay is a mix of red and white clays giving it its soft baby powder rose pink color.
French Pink Clay from France is well sought after from those with sensitive of aging skin. This clay acts as a gentle exfoliator and skin polisher. Used regularly, this clay will draw impurities and oil from deep within the skin, leaving skin polished and soft.
ZEOLITE CLAY
Interestingly, Zeolite clay is formed when lave mixes with fresh or salt water. The mineral rich volcanic ash becomes crystalized throughout millions of years, capturing the mineral goodness for all this time.
Zeolite Clay was traditionally used to absorb heavy metals, toxins and other free radicals from the body.  This happens because Zeolite is observed in a lab to give off negative ions. When in contact with positive ions, this clay has the chemical ability to absorb, store and neutralize toxins. This is why Zeolite is used in many detox recipes for beauty and spa products. Our clay comes from Morocco.
As mentioned, all clays are beneficial to your body and skin. They all absorb dirt, oil, and some toxins. They are all mild and natural ingredients made from the muds of the earth. And they are wonderful addition to masks, scrubs, and cleansers.
In the end, choosing the right clay depends on what suits your skin and or course the color you want your end product to be. It’s that simple, actually.
